The SSL123 Certificate of Thawte is the most popular one. It provides 256-Bit encryption and will be issued fairly quick compared to other certificates. Validation is pretty simple and will only verifiy if the data in your application matches the registrant information to your domain visible in the Whois record. Once issued, the certificate will contain no information about the actual certificate owner, but rather only the hostname and the notice “domain-validated”. The speed of issuing SSL123 Certificates depends on the information you provided when submitting your application. If the applicant data and in particular the e-mail address matches the domain data visible in the Whois record, Thawte will be able to issue the certificate quickly within hours. Generally, the process may take from 1 hour up to 3 days and in an exceptional cases even longer (e.g. if the authorizing person is not available). During the validation process, the authorizing person will be contacted by Thawte via e-mail. This person should check the application data and confirm it. Only after this confirmation, the certificate will be issued by Thawte through an e-mail sent to the tech contact containing a link to download the certificate.

Comprehensive authentification is a key feature of Thawte SSL Web Server Certificates. During validation, it is verified if the applicant of a certificate really exists and is also the owner of the hostname domain according to Whois. The SSL Web Server Certificate guarantees data privacy of your customer and protects information while exchanging information between the webserver and the webbrowser with 256-, 128-, 56- oder 40-bit-encryption.

The SSL Web Server Certificate issued to you will contain the public key and details of your company (country, state, locality, organisational name, organisational unit and hostname of your webserver).

Thawte will need documents for verifiying the identity of your company. The Server Gated Cryptology certificate (SGC SuperCert) by Thawte is a high-performance solution providing a very high security even for older browsers. Thawte uses an automatic increase of security through a step-up function. It changes the browser security level of those capable of 40-bit and 56-bit encryption to a 128-bit encryption. In general, this certificate is useful to include also older Netscape and Microsoft browsers into a high-level security policy of your website. You should ensure that your webserver supports the linking of certificates because the SGC SuperCert requires this functionality. A 256-bit encryption is also possible.
